Maryland Solar Incentives & Program Resources
Program information reviewed November 2, 2026. Rebates, tradable energy credits, utility bill credits, and tax credits are different benefits. Availability and eligibility can change.
Federal residential solar credit
The federal residential clean energy credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. See the IRS residential clean energy guidance. Commercial projects have separate rules and deadlines.
Maryland Solar Access Program
Income-eligible Maryland households may qualify for a solar rebate. The current FY27 program requires an MEA-listed participating contractor and an approved rebate reservation before installation. Funding, household income, ownership arrangements, and other program conditions apply. Confirm contractor participation and your eligibility before relying on a rebate. Visit the Maryland Energy Administration program page for current requirements and applications.
Solar renewable energy credits (SRECs)
Qualifying solar systems may earn renewable energy credits for electricity generated. SRECs can be sold, and their market value changes. Certification and ownership of the credits matter; eligible systems may also qualify for Maryland’s Small Solar Energy Generating System Incentive Program. See the Maryland Public Service Commission’s certification guidance.
Net metering and local programs
Eligible interconnected systems may receive utility bill credits for electricity exported to the grid. The utility’s tariff and interconnection requirements determine the terms. Some counties offer additional incentives; these are not available in every location. Review the MEA solar and storage resources and check with your utility and local government.
We can discuss the electrical work your project requires. Program administrators determine rebate and credit eligibility, and a qualified tax adviser should confirm any tax benefit. No rebate, credit amount, or savings is guaranteed.
